I don't think I agree completely. I called all of the lawmakers for the CHC campaign, and while you are right, I spoke to the assistants, they were all polite and promised to pass on the message, which is what matters in the end.
Lawmakers know that we do not have voting privileges yet, but they also know that we are contributing to this economy far greater than many. I do not remember the source or the thread, but this question was asked before about an online petition, but ironically, that is shown to be not as effective as phone calls.
If you ask me to sign a piece of paper, I might do it even if I am only vaguely supportive of the idea. But I will certainly not take the trouble to call (or better yet) go to the senator/congressman's office and present my case in person unless I really beleive in it.
regarding your "saar.. support the bill..." comment, I would not go there if I were you. Thats a whole different can of worms and borders on an insult to a) people who are not from that part of India (or for that matter the world) and b) more importantly, for people from that part of the world who are in this country since a long time and have taken the pains to lose the accent.
Finally, even if one speaks in an accent, is that the sole reason for a lawmaker to disregard him? Then should a Tennessee senator not listen to someone from New York because the New yorker speaks English in a New York accent?
Please remember IV may be largely Indian, but it is a meeting place for legal immigrants from all over the world. The same way as India may be "largely Hindu" but it is still a secular country and we have had many great citizens and leaders that were not Hindu, the current president notwithstanding.
Very well answered and the sarcastic language the OP used just shows elitism and out of touch with the situation at hand.

investing on IT?
are they just adding equipments or are they migrating to a new system? i hope they are not migrating so that they don't have to deal with the learning curve.
one of the Justification for Fee increase given by USCIS Director was for investing in hiring new personel and e-processing. I guess they will try to convert some of the applications to filed electronically , which would free up their resources , who will probably focus on backloggs
Offcourse this is my thought.:D

Nothing ever is super-fast. Certainly not the green card. You had your share of waiting. Its just that you suddenly see light at the end of tunnel and before you realize you are out of it. So it feels like a dream.
There have been folks who have got their greens in two years flat. Not because they were the smartest workers around. That is lightening fast.
Congratulations to you.

I'm getting married in August and my wife will be here in Sep/Oct. My PD is pretty recent - May 2007 EB2 (India). I'm planning to file my 140/485 (concurrent) and maintain my H1B for now and also bring my wife on H4. As long as she wants to be on H4, I'll maintain my H1 and once my PD comes CURRENT again, I'll file her 485.
Now, I've heard that my 485 won't be approved before my date is CURRENT again. Once the bulletin releases and if my date is CURRENT, I'll send my wife's papers to USCIS immediately. But it seems like I can get FP notice even before my dates become CURRENT. That case, my FP and other stuff might finish early and my wife's late. Does this affect her case in anyway as there is every chance that my 485 gets approved early and hers late. Will she be "out of status" because of her 485 pending and mine approved.
What do you suggest ??

I think this is great idea EB3_NEPA. We need to work on this!!! A good interim solution. That way we can actually show the contribution that we can make to the society as a family. Does anyone have an idea where we can start?
How about sending letters to our representatives and then contacting the media on the plight of our spouses rather than on us!!! May be the human rights folks can help us on this.
can the H4 not apply for a new H1B? Is H4 barred from applying for H1B? If not, I don't see where the prob lies. plus how will this solve the retrogression issue?

so let me understand it, you are saying that you don't agree with something that's why it has got to be wrong. Its not wrong because it is wrong, but its wrong because you don't support it. Is that right? And because you don't support it, it has got to be unfair and that's why its wrong. Isn't that what you just said?
I made the post there. Since you are making some funny comments along with clarification, not sure if you are really looking for the information. But here goes
1) Removal of per-country quota: Claimed to be fair for everyone. Not really. It only helps Indians and Chinese. ROW will see a serious degradation in the time they will get their GCs. I am sure there will be lots of bashing based on this, but the fact of the matter is that such action is not suitable for non I/C applicants.
2) The Rich guy comment is based on the latest (supposedly supported by the CORE no less) action which is to ask for legislative changes if you have money to throw in to buy a house with 20% down.
So yes, I do stand by my statement that IV is devolving into less than general purpose immigration group.
I am EB3-India, yet I dont support the removal of per country limits, as there is a reason for the diversity rule, Indians and Chinese are currently on the wrong side of the equation so it seems "fair" to remove the quota.

@vj i would surely unmask him here , gimme another 10-15 days i will reveal everything about him pal , dont worry.
@bugsbunny i paid about $4200 for the process , he said some attorney fees and stuff
Does someone have an experience of application process, so that i send in the right papers, before leaving here. i mean the set of documents to send to DOL, so that i do not miss out on something important which could nail him to the maximum
If you really want to hit him hard call ICE as well and let them know. If there are similar testimonials from several employees, he is done

Where can I find medical insurance for my parents with reasonable coverage with reasonable premium. Their age is between 55 to 60. Obviously they are with some medical conditions like blood pressure, diabetic... like usual stuff like typical parents would have...Can somebody suggest good one... thanks in advance.
I have used AIG for my in-laws visit and didn't had to use it. Why can't we add them to our insurance as dependants? Did anyone tried this?

The rumor is the world cat will be current and all others unavailable since the quota for those countries are already filled. Sounds logical. Sadly, my app will be screwed in that case. Hopefully that'll consume some numbers from RoW and there might be some overflow next year (or the year after... or maybe after 7 years and who knows 10).
BTW, where did you hear that RoW will be current and the rest will be "U"?

I understand that you are trying to be smart but you not quite sounds so. sorry
of course - this is off topic but the whole point is WE are suffering from it and DOES affects us - may be you are not nor you have any clue about what this means to you.
the goal of our community is to drive out the common enemy, share our experience to benefit others- may be sometimes it does sounds off topic but that does matters to us, the same way how $$$ matters to you. I would recommend you just think about bit before start comment on it.
It' not about being smart. Just common sense. As I mentioned this is a forum meant for US employment based immigration issues.
Per your recommendation, I gave a little thought & this is what I came up with.
Why don't you call or go to ICICI bank and ask for their help to fix our immigration issues ?
ADMINS: Please close this thread.

I don't like idea of making IV a commercial-type business. IV is for legal immigrants and it should be funded by Legal Immigrants, however, practically its not that easy as it sounds, and more importantly its not working enough for IV to operate and generate results that we are waiting for.
Problem is not that we dont have money as small as $20, issue is we dont want to pay. The reasons could be a)- we dont understand importance of IV, b)- dont trust IV fund management, c)- love freebies, d)- dont have money e)- everything else.
Lets talk about e)- there are 31000 reasons not to donate to IV. Well no matter how hard we push there will be people who will never contribute. I met quite a few who been saying yeah for quite sometime and visit IV almost daily but have not contributed $0.01. Cant help them who cant help themselves.
d)- dont have money: smells fishy, we are Hi-Tech workers, get paid really good and cant donate $20, I dont buy this idea. Better explain me next time.
c)- love freebies: its great concept, I like it too, but when IV is fighting for us, the whole legal immigrant community, cant we donate $20 for our own future. Lets take it as a lottery, we buy ticket, we may win and may not win, compare it to IV, we donate to IV, IV may be able to resolve issue before we even reach there in GC process (just like name check), and IV may not help retrogration, but still we come to forum, get information about process, discuss our own case, get seniors/gurus review of our own GC case/issues. We cant go wrong with that. Its doable, just $20 for all this.
b)- IV fund management: well IV has 25000 dedicated registered members, WOW, but way more than that IV has un-registered unknown number of enemies. Exposing everything on web is not a great idea, its like playing poker with your cards open. IV registration process is very simple and hence ANYONE can join and get sensitive info very easily and may use it against us. To protect that info IV is working on local chapters, local chapter registration is based on personal interaction, almost guarantees us that member is really legal immigrant. Once we are local chapter member then you get all such info in personal Inbox. You can see, verify, and discuss IV spending, see all transparent at this state chapter level. Just join them, no fee, its free!
a)- dont understand importance of IV: this is biggest single factor so far, folks who are in their 1-3 years of H1, assumes that by the time they will come to advanced stage of GC everything will smooth by then, as of today there is no reason for them to think about it. One very huge mistake they are making of thinking that GC queue will decrease when they get in line. It wont. It will keep increasing exponentially simply because number of cases come in line are far more than number of cases exit the line.
Delta = (# of new cases in the line) (# of cases exiting from line)
Trust me this Delta is getting bigger and bigger for you. Donating to IV may not seem important right now, think again you are going to invest in your future. IV may resolve this issues before you reach there. Ultimately saving you 2-3 yeas in GC process, you can earn more $$ in those 2-3 years and enjoy GC benefit too.
Wow, all this explaining to get $20 from each member. Please point out if there are other reasons for not donating to IV.

Say how many will be Forced to Leave after it passes ??? Remember we are kicked out now -- we will circle back with them after 3-4 years at low cost high tech hubs like Bangalore/Shanghai !!!!
Kicked out or not....I know some of us will continue to work on H1B as long as possible...
What i want to find out are some willing to leave as soon as this bill passes...QUIT JOB and LEAVE?
So that we can get those numbers and these people realize that they are indeed losing something.
